NAMLUG

To celebrate Software Freedom Day in Namibia, our Linux User Group proposes to co-host a free software event to coincide with the opening of a vulture-monitoring hide at a wildlife rehabilitation centre called NARREC (http://www.narrec.net) on the outskirts of Windhoek. We're planning a free software (and hardware) deployment for a solar powered, satellite-linked IP camera to record, monitor and stream the activities of vultures, eagles and other predators coming to the feeding site. The event will be advertised in the print-media, and we expect the event to be presented at a live morning national TV show in the week before the 17th. We expect a good turn-out of school children, environmentalists, conservation students, members of the local wildlife and bird societies. Obviously the IP camera will stream live pictures to the website for the rest of the world to see.
