The college started as a one-class first year high school named Barrio Community High School in 1966. Through Municipal Resolution No. 80 dated July 5, 1968, it was named Malita Municipal High School. Eventually, the high school was converted into a state college, which we now know as SPAMAST, through the initiative of former Assemblyman Benjamin V. Bautista Sr., by virtue of Batas Pambansa Bilang 148. Today, the school has three strategically located campuses: (1) a six-hectare lot along the shore of Davao Gulf in Poblacion Malita, Davao del Sur, (2) an eight-hectare lot along the National Highway in Barangay Buhangin of the same municipality and (3) a five-hectare lot near the Provincial Capitol in Matti, Digos City with a 28-hectare lot in Matanao, Davao del Sur serving as demonstration farm. The first two campuses form as the College of Agribusiness, Fisheries and Marine Sciences (CAFMS). The third is designated as the College of Agricultural Sciences (CAS). The institution aims to produce highly competent, development-oriented, globally competitive-individuals and to realize this, the college is working to accredit the programs it offers and to forge linkages with various agencies through its research and extension undertakings. The low-cost, high-quality education SPAMAST offers is designed to equip students with intellectual tools and skills needed to be successful in the highly competitive environment of the 21st century. ---- CategoryTeam
