Welcome to the 2010 SFD competition!

'''Software Freedom International''' is proud to announce the Best Event Competition 2010 and encourage every registered SFD team to join! This year we've tried very hard to find something related to '''Software Freedom''' and that could be '''easily shared'''.

So what could be better than an Open Source 3D printer which can replicate itself? Yes you read right, the prizes for the winning teams will be the Open Source [[http://makerbot.com/|Makerbot]] 3D printers! The [[http://makerbot.com/|Makerbot]] is a derivative work of the [[http://reprap.org/|RepRap]] and thus licensed under the [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_General_Public_License|GPL]] (only Makerbot is a registered trademark and redistributing your work under that name would require you to enter in agreement with makerbot itself - [[http://wiki.makerbot.com/open-source-ftw|more here]]). Thanks to [[http://www.thingiverse.com|its community]] the [[http://makerbot.com/|Makerbot]] can both [[http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3285|replicates itself]] and print parts to build a [[http://reprap.org/|RepRap]]. The competition will be judged by the Software Freedom International board as usual. The deadline for submitting entries is 31st October 2010 at 1200UTC.

 * Three prizes will be awarded to the top three entries (1 set of prize(s) per team).
 * Entries will consist of descriptions of the event, video, photos, web links, scanned newspaper reports and possibly other multimedia content.
 * Entries will be judged on the scope and success of activities, innovativeness of the events, number of people reached, amount of publicity, and other criteria.
 * Entries will need to demonstrate that the event was clearly expressing the ideas of what software freedom represents and of the free software movement
 * Entries that involve the wider community (beyond the FOSS and geek community) and press coverage will be considered particularly successful.

== General Rules ==
 1. Only registered teams are eligible to join the competition.
 1. The closing date for all entries is 31st October 2010 at 12h00 UTC (Coordinated Universal Time)
 1. Teams that require more time to prepare their entries may be granted an extension at the discretion of the competition organisers. Applications for a deadline extension should be sent to info@softwarefreedomday.org .
 1. Winners will be notified by email within around 6 weeks of the closing date i.e. on or before 19 December 2010 and will be announced publicly on the SFD website and elsewhere.
 1. Software Freedom International and related organisations (including sponsors) have the right to publish any information submitted as a competition entry.
 1. Only one entry per team may be submitted.
 1. Entries can only be submitted by filling out the form (link to be published after SFD).
 1. Entries must indicate the name of entrant, contact details (same email as the one used when registering), and a full explanation of their entry with any links.
 1. Any entry that requires judges to register to view the content will be discarded (ex: OSUM website, Facebook, etc)
 1. The judging panel consists of the board of Software Freedom International.
 1. The judging panel has the right to contact applicants for any explanation of the entry.
 1. Judges, their immediate families, and their SFD teams are ineligible to enter the competition.
 1. The judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
 1. Contestants who are rude or abusive or who are found to have submitted fraudulent information about themselves or their entry will be excluded from the competition.
