SFD:

Dar Es Salaam City, literally implying "The abode of peace" or “HARBOUR (HAVEN) of PEACE” originated from the Persian-Arabic Bandar-ul-Salaam (Swahili- Bandari ya Salama)founded by Seyyid Majid Sultan of Zanzibar in 1862.

Dar Es Salaam is the busiest city in Tanzania, serving as a regionally important economic centre with population of more than 4,364,541 as of the official 2012 census. The complexity, heterogeneity and density of its political, social, cultural and economic environment have to be given specific consideration. No where than in Dar es Salaam are Tanzanians facing so string social, cultural economic, political and epidemiological transitions.Considering these transitions, the Dar es Salaam population is more sophisticated and demanding. It is with this reason that, efforts are under way, again to celebrate Software Freedom Day once again here in Dar Es Salaam, where students, professionals and FOSS enthusiastic will meet and share all about Software Freedom.
