- Montréal est la plus grande ville de la province de Québec, la deuxième ville en importance au Canada et la septième plus en Amérique du Nord. Initialement appelée Ville-Marie, ou «ville de Marie", la ville prend son nom actuel de Mont-Royal, la colline triple située au coeur de la ville, dont le nom a également été donnée initialement à l'île sur laquelle la ville est située, ou Mont Réal comme il était orthographié en français ancien, (Mont-royal en français actuel).

Originally called Ville-Marie, or "City of Mary", the city takes its present name from Mont-Royal, the triple-peaked hill located in the heart of the city, whose name was also initially given to the island on which the city is located, or Mont Réal as it was spelled in Middle French, (Mont Royal in present French).
