It's also where you find the European Parliament. Furthermore, Brussels is the place where a multitude of cultures come together. In this way, Brussels also gave birth to the first hackerspace in Belgium. It's in this hackerspace that we'll be hosting the Software Freedom Day Brussels 2011. === Talk: Software Freedom: why? === Pieter and Yeri (from Hackerspace Ghent, and from the [http://project.irail.be iRail project]) are coming over for an introduction about the importance of free and open software and of free and open data. Starting from their experience with the iRail project (and the current status), they will bring their own view on freedom in this context. Time: 14:00 - 14:30 === Workshop: Walking through the Inkscape basics - making a basic design === Hands-on, we'll be trying out Inkscape - an open-source graphic program using SVG as standard. A typical design will confront us with some of the most basic, but also with some of the more nifty capabilities of Inkscape. Bring along your own laptop - you'll be trying it out yourself. :) Inkscape obviously runs under all the mainstream versions of Linux (including Ubuntu, Mint, Debian, Redhat, OpenSuse), but also under Windows and MacOS. It's free to download, free to use and (if you would ever feel the need) also free to change to your own desires. If you're a more advanced user, you're welcome to come over and help some of the newer people out too!
