= Hackerspace = == Talk: Software Freedom: why? == Pieter and Yeri (from Hackerspace Ghent, and from the iRail project) are coming over for an introduction about the importance of free and open software and of free and open data. Starting from their experience with the iRail project (and the current status), they will bring their own view on freedom in this context. Time: 14:00 - 14:30 == Workshop: Walking through the Inkscape basics - making a basic design == Hands-on, we'll be trying out Inkscape - an open-source graphic program using SVG as standard. We'll be making a parody on the Club-Mate logo (if you don't know: Club-Mate is the standard hacker's drink). Visit [[https://hackerspace.be/Software_Freedom_Day_2011|the hackerspace site]] for an image example. These are just a few things we'll be showing: * basics (how to create shapes, colors and lines, transparency, ...) * how to trace a bitmap * how to bend text along a line * how to create fancy looking borders Bring along your own laptop - you'll be trying it out yourself. :) Inkscape obviously runs under all the mainstream versions of Linux (including Ubuntu, Mint, Debian, Redhat, !OpenSuse), but also under Windows and MacOS. It's free to download, free to use and (if you would ever feel the need) also free to change to your own desires. If you're a more advanced user, you're welcome to come over and help some of the newer people out too! (and/or learn from the old ruts out there) Duration: 14:30 - 16:00 == GNOME, Present and Future == Last April the GNOME Project released its version 3.0, this was a major milestone for the project, both in technical and human terms; what were the changes, why were they made, this will be a presentation on the GNOME project, as it is today, and as it will be in the future.
