ENGINEERS CONSORTIUM FOR OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE [ECOSS]

The Engineer's Consortium for Open Source Software is a non-profit organization founded by Dr. J Surya Rao on 20 September 2008 to support the free software movement, a copyleft-based movement which aims to promote the universal freedom to distribute and modify computer software without restriction. The ECOSS is incorporated in Roland Institute of Technology , India. The ECOSS is a joint forum of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering , Information Technology Engineering & PG Department of Computer Application.

The team is running under the direction of Er. Sunil Kumar Sahu. The training division is running under the sweet shadow of Mr. Manik Chand Patanaik. The logistics and web related issues are handled by Mr.Sanjit Kumar Acharaya.

The crew of around 20 members is leaded by Mr. Manmohan Brahma and is duly guided by Mr. Epari Siva Kumar , Team leader , ECOSS.

The various other open-source heroes are Mr. Anil Kumar , Mr. Purushottam Kumar , Miss K Divya Rani and others.

The forum is going to organize the SOFTWARE FREEDOM DAY 2009 on 19th September 2009. The program has the intention to teach the B.Tech & MCA students about the flavour of Open Source Software.

The Course module has been categorised into two parts.

1. The 1st & Second Year B.Tech & MCA Batch.

    *

      -- Free & Open Sourcing Software Technology.
    * -- Introduction to Linux Commands. Hands - on -lab.

      -- C with GNU C Compiler and work with Code::Blocks GUI. Basic operations with OpenSuse 11.1
    * -- HTML . Hands - on -lab. 

2. The 3rd & Final Year B.Tech & MCA Batch.

    *

      -- Free & Open Sourcing Software Technology.
    * -- HTML . Hands - on -lab. -- CSS and Javascript . Hands - on -lab.
    *

      -- php & MySQL . Hands - on -lab.
    *

      -- Java Programme execution under linux & working with Netbeans IDE. 

The programme would for 5 days. The entire 4 days will be used for the training purpose as per the course module and the 5th day that is on 19 th September 2009 there would be various open source apptitude examinations. The 5th day will also be used for some short of cultural activities. Moreover there would be a keynote speaker that will be inviting from a govt. organization who will be kinly endulged with open source technologies.
